culture:  a way of life

artifacts: man made objects such as tools, pottery, weapons, that are characteristic of an earlier time.  We use the term to especially describe objects found at an archaeological excavation (dig).

Culture is the characteristics of a particular group of people, defined by everything from language, religion, cuisine, social habits, music, and arts. Today, in the United States as in other countries populated largely by immigrants, the culture is influenced by the many groups of people that now make up the country.

Class Starter Question: Copy & respond to the following question.

Why is it important to study history? (Give 1 reason of your own. We will watch the video clip Introduction to World History; write about 1 of the statements from the video.
